Amazon.com Product Description:
These super-light, ear-bud headphones weigh a mere six grams (.18 ounces.) They are the perfect headphone for those who relish lightweight, quality headphones. The silent cap confines the music to the listener's ear and away from those in the immediate area, a plus for those using the headphones in the coffee shop or library. The earphones are also open-air, meaning they allow ambient noises to enter the ear; this translates to a safer headphones, as the listener will be aware of horns, whistles and shouts.

The MDR-E828LP's deliver a quality sound, even with their small size. The headphones use sixteen millimeter drive units for a deep bass and clear treble. Sony also uses neodymium magnets which provide more energy per ounce than other conventional magnets. The PET diaphragm gives the headphones a high rigidity for minimum distortion. Finally, Sony's Acoustic Twin Turbo circuit achieves high sonic output by utilizing sound chamber and duct technology. The oxygen-free litz cord transfers sound efficiently. The cord is one meter long (3.3 feet) for ample range of movement. The housing is a modern, hi-tech, black and silver metallic finish.

Customer Reviews

The BEST headphones period.
I got these headphones about a decade ago, and these had amazing bass. Not too much bass, not too little bass. Just the perfect amount of bass and crispness where I can close my eyes and immerse myself in the music with. Since then, I have spent roughly 0 and have gone through 8 additional headphones that have not even come close to these (5 of them from Sony, some of professional grade). These being the cheapest ones for about ! I'm never going to try to find something better. As perfection was always away, and paying more always seemed like you got a lot less.

I lost these 8 years ago, but I just picked up new ones yesterday, and I can say that I can come to loving music at a much higher level once again. If you have these headphones, you'd know exactly what I mean by that. There definitely is magic in their Twin Turbo technology.

Amazing headphones for ridiculously low price
I got these quite a while ago as a Christmas gift to replace my old, broken headphones. At the time, I had little experience with digital music and didn't really notice much special about these earbuds.

However, after buying an iPod nano recently and using Apple's provided earbuds, which subsequently fell apart, I returned to these and was stunned by the incredible sound quality. The bass in these tiny earbuds is very impressive compared to the Apple units, and in general the sound is very well balanced with all frequencies coming through with great clarity.

In addition, the design and construction of these headphones is very solid and durable. Best of all, they're less than 10 dollars!

If you're looking for a good pair of earbuds, BUY THESE. Great sound, solid construction, and the best price you'll find!

Above average sound, below average quality
I bought these at my local Best Buy and I knew they were definitely an improvement over the ones that came with my MP3 player, but they didn't absolutely wow me. Nevertheless, they had pretty good sound quality. The only thing that I didn't like was that they don't have a great build quality. The black part that touches your ear came off on mine, and when I tried to put it back together, the right ear disconnected. I went back to best buy and got a different set of earphones, and those were nowhere near the sound quality and they were more. I took them back and got these again, and my new pair hasn't broken since (I've had the new pair for about 6th months, the old pair was about 9 months). Overall, I am definitely satisfied with these headphones, but I haven't found a pair yet under that makes me go "Wow!" But these come closest.

Also, When laying down with these on carpet, you can barely feel them, and I usually find headphones uncomfortable. I think I like these because they're nnot in-ear, they hang on the ear. That is a problem when running, though, so I keep a pair of in-ear earphones for that.

Bought 3 already; this recent one was the fastest to die
Although its sound quality-to-price ratio is the best in the market (if that's ever quantifiable), this product does not last long. After about a month of using these headphones daily with my iPod, the sound quality in the left ear has suddenly become fuzzy, and is now subject to the careful adjustment and positioning of the plug (or of the wire immediately connected to the plug). This exact condition has arisen three times already to three of these same headphones that I've bought, leading me to suspect that Sony has deliberately done this, in an attempt to maximize their profit from these items.

The warranty is pretty bothersome as well, as you would need to buy your own packaging and pay your own shipping (purportedly at a lower price, but I haven't tried yet).

If you still intend on buying these, be EXTREMELY careful with handling them, for all the reasons mentioned above.

Sound good, don't fit
I ordered these with my sony fm radio because so many said the sounded great. If I hold them in my ears, they do sound great. But, they don't stay in my ears and were such a hassle I threw them away. Maybe it's my ears, but I tried several different ways, to no avail.

Amazon.com Product Description:
Many noise-reducing headphones feature large, over-the-head or behind-the- neck headbands, making them rather bulky to use while traveling or working out. Not so the Sony MDR-EX71SLA Fontopia headphones, whose ultra-light, in-the-ear design sounds great while minimizing distracting ambient noise. The closed-type construction makes the headphones a perfect fit for airline, train, or bus travel, or while dancing or skating to your own tunes. The phones owe their audio performance to the extra- small 9 mm drivers and neodymium magnets fitted inside each earpiece. The drives and magnets combine to generate high-intensity sound, with a deeper-than-expected bass response (as low as 6 Hz) and refreshingly crisp mid- and high-range tones (all the way up to 23 kHz). Listeners will also dig the three sizes of earbuds that come with the headphones, ensuring that users find the right match for their individual ear shapes while enjoying long-lasting comfort. And thanks to the dual cord lengths--1.65 feet (original) and a 2.3-foot extension--the phones are great for both iPods and MP3 players on armbands or belt clips.

Other details include an oxygen-free copper cord that reduces noise and improves signal transfer, a gold-plated mini-plug that resists corrosion, a stylish neck chain cord, and a streamlined carrying case that slips easily into a shirt pocket. The 100 mW phones, whose black color matches many MP3 players, is backed by a one-year warranty on parts and a 90-day warranty on labor.

Fontopia Bud-Style Headphones
I bought a Sony MP3 player back in 2007. About a month ago, the earphones stopped working. I decided to get another Sony earphone because I liked my old one. Came across the Fontopia Bud-Style Headphones - absolutely the best. Sound quality is the best I have ever heard from very small phones. The bass quality is so exquisite that I had to turn down the volume to protect my eardrums. I love the neck chain style. The ear buds take a little getting used to. It is quintessential that the proper buds are used. The buds need to fit snugly into the ear to feel the bass. The only problem I have with this fantastic device is the cable. The connector is a bit heavy and pulls on the left phone while walking. A shirt clip should fix this problem. Would by these earphones 10 times over!!!Sony MDR-EX71SLA Fontopia Bud-Style Headphones with Case (White)

These are the worst earbuds I've ever experienced, excessive echoing and virtually no bass response at all.
