Excellent choice for the money
These are a replacemnt for the Shure e3c headphones I had. Reviews I read gave the ultimate ears a good alternative to the pricey Shure headphones. The sound in one of the Shure phones was crackling and decided to get new ones. With the ultimate ears, you can replace the wire, which is a better alternative than buying new headphones!

Decent but not Worth the Price
I was excited to try these and as soon as I opened I realized they weren't going to work for me.
The cord is too short. I like to golf w/ my ipod in my pocket and the cord is just not long enough. And it's always getting bunched up and doesn't lay nicely.
The ear buds are a pain in the butt to get in place (in your ears). If you need to remove the buds a lot, these are not for you.
The sounds quality is definitely excellent...but that's not enough for me. I'm going to go buy anothe rpair of the Sony ear buds that have worked great for years.
...And don't tell me I didn't follow the directions...BECAUSE I DID!

Piece of...
When I first got these, I thought the sound was better than my default Ipod earphones, but the sound to me was still muffled. I used them mostly when I worked out and often times the seal would detach from my skin and the plug would fall out, even looped over my ears. Still they worked ok so I kept them.
This week they completely stopped working and I purchased these earphones on February 20, 2008! They no longer transmit volume from my Ipod and lasted a whopping six months. Don't waste your money. Read reviews from people who had have the product for a while before spending $ on electronic gadget or accessories.

I rarely write reviews, however, ultimate ears Super.fi 3 Studios are the best earphones for the price!!!!!!
I purchased Ultimate Ears Super.fi 3 Studio Earphones after my Bose In-Ear headphones shorted out at the plugs. I figured, for the money, if the Super.fi's ever shorted out, they have user replaceable cables that you can order from their site for . I didn't expect the sound from these earphones to be the quality of the old-fashioned over-the-ear headphones. I purchased the Super.fi 3s because I listen to mostly Jazz and audiobooks. The quality of the sound is just something you'd have to experience yourself. They harken me back to the first childhood memory I have of putting on the HUGE over-the-ear headphones my brother-in-law had and the awe and simplicity of being wrapped in sound. I would recommend these headphones for anyone who is fed up with cheaply made phones that just don't stand up to real-world commuting and for irredeemable audiophiles. They work great when wearing glasses or goggles, too, so don't let the around the ear bit scare you. The wire is bendy up by the ear. If I had 0 to spend, I'd buy the custom Ultimate Ears but, the C.E.O.s are the only ones making enough money to pay back their student loans AND have a life.

fantastic sound
What a great review by N. Pardo. I couldn't agree with him more. These in ear monitors are the best you can buy anywhere near this price. The detail is incredible, but the overall sound is very smooth. The frequency response is very flat, leading some people to feel they are short on bass. This is not the case. The bass is all there, it's just not bumped up to unreal levels. They lay out a huge soundstage and you almost forget you are listening to ear buds at all. What is on the cd is what you will hear. Female voice is especially wonderful. All vocals have a you are there reality to them that I have rarely heard from headphones at any price. As you can tell, I am very excited about Ultimate Ears Super.Fi3 Studios. If you are familiar with what music is suppose to sound like I think you will be excited too!

The E2c's speakers are constructed with studio-grade components, producing exceptional audio clarity. Their in-ear design, using supplied flex sleeves, naturally blocks background noise. This permits lower listening volumes in loud environments--critical in safeguarding your hearing during performance or other activities. No batteries or extra equipment are needed for sound isolation.
Because every ear is different, E2c earphones come with 3 pairs (small, medium, large) of flex sleeves and 3 pairs (small, medium, large) ultra-soft flex sleeves to ensure a personalized fit. These disposable foam sleeves gently compress to fit in the ear canal. Once in the ear, the foam expands to form a tight seal. Once tightly sealed, the sleeves hold the earphones firmly in place.
The E2c's cables pass behind the ear--out of sight and out of the way for comfort and discretion. Weighing only 1 ounce, the E2c is lightweight and comfortable enough for any portable listening application. The set comes with a soft, stylish, compact, and zippered carrying case, which allows for an easy, tangle-free way to store your earphones.
What's in the Box
Earphones, 2 triple-flange sleeves, 3 pairs (small, medium, large) of flex sleeves, and 3 pairs (small, medium, large) ultra-soft flex sleeves (kit 90XC1371, with cleaning tool), a soft carry case (80B8232), a user's manual, and warranty information.

Sure earphones
Great sound but I have't gotten the part that goes in my ear to be comfortable yet

Broke 3 times before warranty was up
I got these in part because of the warranty. Mine broke 3 times during the 2 year warranty period and each time Shure replaced them, but I had no headphones for two weeks. Each time they broke, I got a new pair in sealed packaging, so I think that these headphones just break a lot, which is surprising considering how sturdy they feel. The warranty just ended and they broke again, not buying another pair.

Shure In Ear Headphones
I favor clear music. I am impressed with the clarity and detail of these headphones. The bass does not suffer because of the clarity. You must make sure they fit in your ears. On the third try with the various earpieces that came with the phones, I got a perfect fit. I can't hear anything but the music.

Great mids and highs. Thin bass.
After using these for a while and comparing to other in ear canal and earbuds I have, and to a set of over the ear headphones, I have come to the conclusion that this isn't the frequency response I like. These do a terrific job with mids and highs, and the bass is very clear and defined, but lacks punch. I mean, you can hear individual bass guitar notes very distinctly, as opposed to somewhat of a mash of bass sound. But the compromise for this clarity is that it sounds a bit thin.
This review is an edit (my first, written soon after purchase wasn't very helpful), so I'm not able to change the stars. I'm really not sure how to rate them now, though. If you like feeling the bass a little, then I think you would be disapointed with these. If you prefer clarity, and are willing to sacrifice a little bass, these might be perfect. So, one person might say 1 star, the other 5 stars. Subjective. I guess I'd say 3 stars at this point. I have to give them credit for making a mediocre source (iphone with 128 bit rate) sound pretty good.
I'm not affiliated with these people, and I'm not sure Amazon will let me post this, but this site has frequency response graphs for most headphones. They even have a thing where you can choose different headphones and overlay the graphs to compare. The E2c graph clearly shows less bass response. Based on the graphs, I ordered some Sennheiser px-100s. (Which aren't in canal or isolating). Unfortunately, I purchased the E2cs from Ace Photo Digital, and their return policy is very restrictive (if you open the package, you can't return). Wish I had read the fine print, because now I'm out a small pile of cash.

They aren't especially comfortable, but because the cords go over my ears and the plugs fit my ear well, they stay on when I'm running.

Added a week later:
I received the PX-100 headphones I ordered, and I have to say that I don't think there is any comparison. For my subjective preference, the PX-100s deliver a much more enjoyable experience. Of course, I'm sort of comparing apples and oranges, because the PX-100s are over the ear headphones, and they don't isolate sound either, and, being open, they leak sound. If I needed any of those things, I would go with the Shure, but all I wanted was good sound in something I can jog with.

Great sound, noise cancelling, nice Bass
Shure E2c Sound Isolating Earphones
I purchased these headphones about 18 months ago. So far, they are the best phones I have found. Good bass, cancels out noise better than the Bose "noise cancelling" and they have a pretty good fit. Two things I don't like as well. 1. Over the ear wires. In order to get a proper fit, you have to drape the wires over your ears and then back down. 2. Ear fit. Although Shure gives you multiple options for ear sizes, these don't fit just right for me unless I ram them into my ears.
Overall this is a GREAT set and I highly recommend them.
