Sound too bright
OK, first, I do can tell a difference between 192KBps and uncompressed. My primary setup is Musican Fidelity Can + Sennheiser HD600. However, I didn't like Shure at all. Sound is too bright, basically it is like solid state vs. tube sound. Shure sounds way brighter than Sennheiser. Maybe if you are a Grado fan, you'll like them. I actually like sound of cheaper Bose TriPort better (OK, you can flame me now for mentioning Bose and audiophile in the same sentence). I am returning Shure, continue looking.

I miss my Shure E4c!
Left my E4c on a plane. You are welcome to whoever picked them up! I like the noise isolating for riding a bike as the wind noise makes any other listening options impossible. The SE310 is great when stationary. A perfect fit is mandatory. "Bright" would seem an appropriate term. My girlfriend was unable to get a fit and scoffed at the expense.

My largest complaint is the MASSIVE connector mid cable. Where the Y terminates into another jack leading to the beefy male connector. It weighs as much as my ipod. On a plane, no big whoop. On a bike, in the gym, on a jog: huge issue. Even when used in the over the ear fashion the weight tugs on the earpieces, upsetting the perfect fit and losing all mid and bass.

If you can find a pair of E4c's buy them! Light and great fit and sound. I would buy these only for physically inactive options. The sound is superior, but for me less functional.

My early new year's resolution is now to stop destroying packaging so I can return products that I am not happy with. My solution was to buy Ultimate Ears Super.fi 5 Pro Earphones. Recommended, however have required two RMA's.

Aural Nirvana
First let me say that I bought these because I was in idiot and carelessly destroyed my other pair of Shure headphones. But, I will come back to that.

I spent a little more than I wanted to. I knew from previous experience that Shure products were fabulous. And I was not disappointed. I don't make a move without my Shure headphones. I would be horrified to find myself at the airport without them. I won't get into all the technical reasons they are superior. I will just say that they are without peer.

Back to me first pair. They got destroyed through my own carelessness. 100% my fault. I took a chance and sent them to the Shure repair center with a copy of the receipt, and a copy of the receipt for my new pair that I bought on Amazon. 7 days later a brand new pair showed up with a zero charge invoice. Now, that is a company that I will come back to again and again. THANK YOU Shure!!

My advice, buy the most expensive pair you can without getting yourself in fiscal trouble. You will not be dispointed.

Excellent product
Sound quality is truly impressive and that's all that matters. My only gripe is that cord is too short for any meaningful use. There is extension cord supplied but then it becomes too long and starts to tangle.

Shure SE310-K heaphones
Ordered in Maastricht (Netherlands, EU) and received within 3 weeks on the first day of the estimated day of receiving the item.

Sound quality of the headphones are good, but lack a bit in bass-response, especially in electronic music like trance, house, techno and dance and hip-hop. All other sounds are great, like guitars, piano, violins and voices.

Worth the 200 dollar.

Great product; BUT can not be used with computer
They do an excellent job cancelling noise. Audio quality seemed great to me. I have used them on very long flights, walking on busy streets, working on noisy offices. They were able to cancel noise from crying babies, people snoring, people talking and laughing loudly. I loved them!

BUT when used with the computer, they make an awful constant buzz/crackling noise (with the noise-cancelling mode on, off and even without battery). AT technical support informed me that it is a common problem with high sensitivity (low impedance) headphones.

Great headphones
This headphones was great at reducing the noise on the airplane. On my trap from New York to Tokyo on a Boeing 777, I first tried the airline's supplied noise canceling headphones, they were ok at reducing the engine noise, but when I changed over to my Audio Technica headphones - WOW - a Big difference in sound canceling & quality from the Audio Tech. This headphone is Highly recommended.

Like it
I go on long business trips about every other week and love this product for airplanes. It seems like no headphones ever fit my ears correctly, so they don't completely block out the noise, but they do a good job of blocking out enough so that my ears aren't ringing after long flights.

love it!
great pair of earphones. very efficient. no need to have the volume full blast. work great. highly recommended.

my first review
My Sony nosie cancelling earphones died after a few years of good use and decided to spend a few extra bucks for what apperared to be a higher quality set. They are great, more comfortable with less hiss, plus the case is really nice. I have used these at concerts with the echo cancelling turned on but not plugged into anything. They act as earplugs and you can actually understand what is being said. This is the first time I have reviewed a product on amazon, and everybody else is so helpful I thought it was time to pitch in. So why not start with an excellent product.

Awesome but not the best
These headphones are very comfortable and well worth 0. These are NOT Bose quality but that's what you pay the 0 for. The quality of the music is lacking but I bought these for the noise canceling part. I use these for long car rides, listening to EVPs when I have ghost hunts, and listening to lectures.

NOT good at all for lawn care.
I bought these just to test them out. Most reviews here are very favorable for canceling airplane noise, and for me, although in a VERY limited test of that (planes traveling above me), they totally eliminated the noise. But I bought these to cancel noise of my lawn equipment machinery. In that area, they are terrible. An inexpensive pair of Peltor (or similar) earmuffs is much more effective for that kind of usage.

Deciding I wanted to return them, Amazon was FANTASTIC at taking them back and crediting my account. All delivery charges were paid for, including UPS picking the package up at my door.

Fantastic performance at a great price!
I purchased these headphones for an overseas trip. They made the roar of the engines disappear almost completely. The sound quality is excellent. It's just too bad that the technology on the airplane doesn't come anywhere near the quality of the headset, but the headset helps make up for it - now you can actually hear the dialogue in the in-flight movies! I see no reason to pay twice as much for the Bose headphones when these perform up to par and are comfortable and convenient.

Pretty good
I thought the headphones were broken when I first got them and connected them to my computer, but it turned out that the cable that came with the headphones was broken. Panasonic should have just sent me a new cable when I asked, but they wanted me to send back the whole package. It was cheaper for me to buy a new cable.
Once I got the new cable, it works great for music.
Noise cancellation work like lots of other 'noise canceling' headphones by generating white noise rather than active noise canceling. It's not as loud as some other headphones, and it's pretty effective at covering background noise, so I can't complain too much.

Great headphones!!
These are a great pair of headphones. If you are looking for some noise canceling headphones, don't shell out too much money. These are an amazing buy. They work great and I love them.

Can't get a better headset for the money!
This is the best sound quality for the money. No need to spend big bucks on bose or Senhiesser. These sound great and if they break or you lose them...no big deal...they cost less than .

Well worth the money and even more!
I bought this 2 weeks ago and shipped very quickly. I bought it because I use subway to go to work everyday and the loud sound when it goes into tunnels is very annoying so I was first thinking about noise-canceling headphones but as you may know they are very expensive, then I saw these COBY earphones and they were cheap and I liked the fact that it goes into the ear. Surprisingly these earphones are very comfortable and do have the noise-canceling feature. I don't know if they would last long but I would think if it lasts for anything more than 3 months I'd say it was worth it.

Just Right
These are decent earbuds that give good sound and fit well. They are inexpensive and may not give the ultimate quality sound that some may desire, but they are just fine for my needs. I usually don't buy expensive earbuds because I either lose them or my cats eat them. They also stay in my ears while I exercise which is important. The one drawback about the product is that they only come with one size earbud cover. I would say these buds fit a small to medium ear (as compared with Griffin ear buds).

Not so much....
These were cheap but do not stay in the ears...I have found that while wearing a hat they work out well. The sound quality is decent and make great spares but I could never work out wearing these.

Its bearable
I bought this in ear headphones few days back they looks nice but dont perform nicely, i hope that will be expected by you when you purchase a cheap headphones. it sound quality is average, sound cracks on high volume. and its cord length i found to be inadequate, its pretty short. also some noise gets introduced at high or medium high volume.

Maxell Noise-Cancellation Headphones

Maxell Noise-Cancellation Headphones
Binding: Electronics
Manufacturer: Maxell
Product Description:
At Maxell, the priority is delivering the highest quality products available in consumer and professional audio and video tapes, computer media, batteries and accessories. To achieve this goal, Maxell has spent the last 30 years focusing all its research and development strengths on creating a long list of innovative solutions for its customers. Today, consumers and professionals all over the world reach for the Maxell name when they want a quality product they can trust.
Amazon.com Review:
Maxell's HP-NC1 portable headphones are equipped with Noisebuster, a patented noise-reduction technology that really works, making the HP-NC1 an ideal companion for in-flight (or even on-bus) music lovers.

The Noisebuster technology works via the following process: tiny microphones within each earpiece "listen" for any pervasive environmental noise and send this information to a device called an in-line audio-enhancer pack. This device reads and analyzes the information and then generates a noise-cancellation wave that's out of phase with the noise itself. The audio-enhancer pack feeds this wave back into the headset--when the noise wave goes up, a corresponding cancellation wave goes down, causing the two signals to cancel each other out. This eliminates a good deal of unwanted sonic junk, from airplane engine noise to distant freeway traffic seeping into your living room.

We evaluated our HP-NC1s as a utility crew used jackhammers on the street outside our listening room. Because you can bypass the Noisebuster technology with a switch, it was easy for us to compare the noise-canceled signal to the standard sound. While Noisebuster didn't entirely eliminate the jackhammer's rat-a-tat-tat, it did significantly reduce the sound so that we could listen to quiet music, such as soft jazz and classical.

As for the sound of the headphones themselves, the midrange is clear, but the HP-NC1s are a little sluggish overall, with no deep bass or extended high frequencies. In fairness to the HP-NC1s, noise-canceling headsets often sound restricted in the frequency extremes, as it can be tricky for the noise-canceling devices to differentiate between noise and music. The fit of these headphones is also a little snug for our taste, but you can loosen them a bit by gently bending the headset.

We have heard comparably priced, non-noise-canceling headphones that sound better than Maxell's HP-NC1. However, better sound doesn't matter much if you're having a hard time hearing the music in a noisy environment. At this price, these headphones are a bargain.

Pros:

  • Noisebuster technology works well
  • In-flight dual-jack adapter included
  • In-line volume control

Cons:

  • Snug fit may be uncomfortable
  • Average sound quality

Lasted a matter of weeks
I had these for only a few weeks and they have quit working entirely. Fiddling with the cord doesn't help. For , I expected much better quality. I am sadly disappointed and will not buy any headphone that says "Maxell" again - you can't trust anybody these days, they've all gone for cheap and to heck with quality.

these are awful
what you can't see from the images is that the battery pack to power the noise cancellation is in the middle of the cord, which is just plain stupid and annoying. you have to stuff the battery pack in your pocket, so if you're taller than 5'7", then every time you reach in to your pocket to grab your ipod or whatever, you run the risk of pulling down the battery pack, which in turn jerks your head down and to the side. if you leave the battery pack out of your pocket, it's heavy enough that it swings around and hits stuff if you're walking around. i haven't even put batteries in the battery pack yet so i can't imagine how much heavier it will be with batteries in 'em. avoid these and look for noise cancellation headphones where the battery is on the actual headphone.

I love it!
Initially I purchased Sennheiser HD201 Headphones. They didn't last two weeks, so I thought i would try the Maxell Noise Cancellation Headphones. I got them yesterday and I am so glad I did. I love them. The noise cancellation works well and the wires are heaver than the Sennheiser Headphones. It also came with a handy tote bag to keep them in and even has as adapter for airplane travel! I think these are "keepers". Thank you Amazon:)

Noise feature: nice. Sound quality: bad.
Remember when you were in high school and got your first car and it cost every cent you had and was really cool but it had the crappy original equipment stock car stereo so you saved up all your money from your part time after school job for the next month and went out and bought the most powerful car stereo you could afford and installed it and hooked it up to the crappy original equipment stock car speakers and cranked it up and blew out the speakers but you had no money left so you saved up all your money from your part time after school again for the next month to buy new speakers but for that whole month every time the sound got over a certain volume level it would get all distorted because the paper cones of the speakers were all ripped up?

Remember that month?

That's how these headphones sound out of the box.

Giving good sounds
I got these with my Pepsi points. THey work great. 2 aaa batteries helps take out some of the background noises around you.

They are comfortable to wear.

Headphones surpassed all expectations
All I need to say is that the noise canceling on these headphones is very good. I could barely hear any noise or passengers when I'm using them on the bus. Sound quality is very excellent too, every single note is reproduced faithfully. I don't think you can do much better than this, its Bose quality without the price.

No more NOISY airplane rides - PLUS fantastic music on the computer!
Honestly I thought all this "noise cancelling" headphones stuff was just pure HYPE - but NOT SO! Our first use of these amazing headphones came on the airplane (had a 3 leg trip about 12 hours total trip time). The plane didn't "seem" that noisy at first, but we thought, hey we bought them for the plane, let's see what they can do. Put them on and turned on the noise canceling feature - and WOW! We were truly amazed, and just to be sure of the difference, we'd take them away from our ears from time to time to see the change. The last leg of the trip was an American Airlines Eagle (puddle hopper" plane) - and it had a horrible roar. Even with these amazing headphones, it was still really annoying, but WAY worse without them. Fortunately that flight was only 45 minutes long.

WELL worth the money spent, and when used with the music on the plane, SO MUCH better than the airplane headphones that you'll want to feel sorry for the poor sods who are using the airplane headphones! Then there's what they do for your music on the computer or portable devices!!!

I can't recommend them enough. My ears and my sanity thank Audio-Technica.

Perfect for airline travel
Purchased these headphones for long-distance air travel. They were great in cutting out most of the jet engine noise, while still allowing me to converse with my wife. Also good for watching the movies. I love the travel case with its pouch for storage of cord and adapter plugs. All very light weight and comfortable fit.
I suppose cancelling 100% of undesirable noise is impossible since some noise vibrations enter the ear canal via jaw bones and skull.
I will never fly again without these headphones. Great purchase and value.

Good for studying
Now, these headphones don't eliminate screaming from a 2-year old, but do a great job with eliminating TV noise and constant and consistent noise. Work wonderfully in airports, on a plane, in a crowded place. I bought them to help me study for nursing school with my three young children hanging around and having to sneak in studying while waiting during piano lessons, swim lessons, soccer practice, etc. The earphones are very comfortable for long wear. The only reason I don't give them a full 5 stars is how big they are, bulky. They're hard to carry around in your purse/backpack. But they do an excellent job for the price and were much more reasonable than their more expensive competitors.

Great headphones for the price
I previously owned a pair of Ultimate Ears Super.fi 5 Pro Earphones (Black) for just under a year. They were excellent in-ear monitors and were my favorite iPod accessory... until one of the monitors fell off and disappeared into non-existence. For a short while after losing my UEs, I resorted to using the generic-included iPod headphones. Absolutely horrible.

As a person who works primarily in multimedia and film, audio quality is extremely important to me. I asked my boss what type of audio gear he preferred for our lab and personal use; he recommended Shure and Audio-Technica. Sounds good to me.

With the Shure IEMs out of my budget, I ended up deciding on a pair of Audio-Technica ATH-ANC7 QuietPoint Active Noise-Cancelling Headphones.

The first thing I noticed after pulling the headphones out of the aesthetically-pleasing box was the great fit of the earcups, which provided great isolation even with the noise-canceling feature off. They were very comfortable on my ears and very light on the head.

Without the noise-canceling, you can hear a larger range of sounds if you are in a quiet room. For most places though (such as a crowded bus or subway), the passive sound will not be enough to hear the audio content.

By flipping on the switch on the left earcup (40 hours on a single AAA battery), the noise-canceling feature is enabled and brings forth a nice, clear, even sound. It took a few weeks (a break-in period, I suppose) for the sound to come through nicely. Out of the box, they sounded okay, but it took a little while until I could hear the full potential of the headphones.

The sound quality is pretty even from low to mids to high, probably a little stronger on the mids. Bass junkies may not appreciate this pair of cans due to its lack of heavy bass. For casual listeners and those looking for a great pair of headphones for a nice price, these will do just fine.

Highly recommended.

GREAT!
Its just fantastic!
the cuality of the sound is great and i can walk to other rooms with it without loosing that much sound.

v ery good--but not great
Overall, these are pretty good headphones. The sound quality is very good, and I've never listened to them long enough at one go to run the batteries down. The auto-on switch in the headband and the inductive charging on the base station mean that you never really have to worry about the batteries at all.

The downside is that the range isn't as great as specified (although I've yet to see a wireless product that manages the range the manufacturer claims), and in an office environment anyway, I get the occasional random click. Apparently, that click is the automatic squelch. It's a bit annoying that it doesn't just go silent, though. Also, the plastic parts where the headband connects to the earpieces tends to creak a bit.

Still, a pretty solid product, and comfortable enough to wear for at least a few hours at a time.

Defective Out of the Box
I own many Sony products, (HDTV, Audio Receiver, CD Carosels, Digital Cameras)

I was very disappointed with this product. The first unit was defective out of the box. The replacement unit was also defective. I returned both units for credit and would never buy another Sony headset again.

Whole Lotta Noise
Headphones
I bought this item somehow, fortunately, before the price skyrocketed 20 bucks. I got it for 57.09. Don't know how or why sony or amazing jacked the price, but stoked I got this before it went up. Weird how that worked out. So THAT in itself earns a star for this item.

Design: VERY sweet, simple and intuitive. The analog RCA red-white is convertible to the 3.5mm jack. You just flip the cable around and use the opposite end on the reciever for whatever port your don't have. I was impressed with the little usage of cords and cable-age. Additionally, the simple 3 channel switch, battery opening button, and volume button are the ONLY buttons on the headphones. A+ for simplistic design. The out-on-of with the headband works well, too, but I'm concerned with some wear and tear that might be a problem, sot hat's solid right there. 2 more stores for design.

I wish the actual ear muffs were totally soundproof. I had been wearing peltor ear plugs (Designed for chainsaw noise) to block out ambient noise and had always shoved earbuds under those, this, understandably, offered a huge upgrade to listenign to music, but would have liked it to be totally soundproof. But that's not really a buying factor for most people. The ear muffs DO totally surround your ears with a desireable cushion. So tack on another star for comfort.

All that is GREAT! But it snaps, crackles and pops on all three of the channels of the channels , that's the most essential feature, so that loses three stars!

There's so few buttons and/or cordage you need to fiddle with. The minimum amount of plugs that came with the thing enhances the gist of wireless headphones (no cable clutter). This is a stellar poduct. And if you could get for 57.09 like I did, it's a steal. The ability to roam around the house while listening to music or some program is magically liberating. You don't have ot pause audo files while taking a bathroom break anymore. Haha!

Neglibible: Packaging. Why the hell do they make these so impossible to open from the plastic wrapper?! haha!

Excellent for enjoying your music/movies
I have this hooked up in my main living room, and it's connected to my Television set. I bought this because I watch tv late night and other people in the house were complaing that they could not sleep as they could hear the tv. Everything about this product is great.

Just one down side. If you are watching a movie, take breaks with the headset, as it heats up your ears. Also clean the ear peice as sweat builds up. It does get hot.

Great Product
great sound - exceeded my expectations - I'm planning to buy a second one for my other TV...

inexpesive and useful
Just bought this wireless earphone.Set up was a breeze. Do get slight static in the background with my TV Sony Triniton Wega there are 2 channels but switching does not help. The other channel is just loud static. Did catch music from a neighbour while I was trying to listen to the TV while cooking. Overall Sound is ok headset slips if you move around but the material looks good and worth the I paid for it.

Great buy - great product
Once I put the batteries in correctly (they go in the headphones themselves), these headphones worked like a champ. I tried them with my TV, my old boom box, my iPod, and my old Pioneer receiver. They worked with all of those devices. The sound is great - clear and balanced. The main wire that connects the base to the device has standard red and white banana-type plugs for audio components but comes with TWO adapters - one for mini-plug (like your ipod) and one with that larger type you see on a lot of receivers (like my Pioneer). (The adapters piggy back on each other for the Pioneer headphone jack). Plus you might be able to plug the non-adapted plugs into an audio out, although I did not try that (I like to stick with jacks specifically labeled for headphones). Hint: there is a tuner wheel on the headphones - if you think the phones aren't working or the sound is bad or not enough volume, fiddle with the tuner to get the best sound - it made a big difference! I like the fact these take standard batteries so I don't have to rely on a charger. One thing I had not realized was that not only do you need batteries in the headphones - the base unit also needs to be plugged in to an electrical outlet (if I had thought long enough about it I might have figured this out but I didn't). I can use these throughout my 2000 sq ft condo with no sound distortion or loss. Very pleased with this purchase. I can finally play Guitar Hero III without annoying my neighbors and pets!

WOW!
We pay extra for names. Bose, Mercedez Benz, Sennheiser . . . We pay because we have come to expect the best from such brands. Well, Sennheiser has definitely lived up to its name. These headphones are astounding. I was angry that someone stole my good JVC headsets that I've had for a zillion years. I was upset that I had to fork over more money because money has a way of disappearing. I am definitely not upset now. This was well worth the money. Set up only took a few minutes and was pretty straight forward and the sound is outstanding. Reception is perfect all through my (tiny) house and though the instructions warn of possible interference from other electronic devices, I have not found this to be a problem at all.

I would expect to pay at least double for this quality of sound. If I had to, I'd do it again with a smile on my face.

I use this more for intelligible hearing of TV programs than for music.
I am past 60 and for my age, my listening is worsening day by day that too after a surgery on my right ear. Earlier I used to enjoy TV programs (like Discovery, National Geography, HBO, Star Movies etc) almost till midnight.

Nowadays the TV programs are becoming more and more garbled (to me !) and couldn't enjoy the music and understand dialogues. I thought I have to settle down for the rest of my life with this deficiency.

I heard about wireless headphones which can be used for listening to TV programs. I read all reviews about Sennheiser wireless headphones and the almost unanimous recommendations by users.

Earlier days it was difficult to get these world class electronic devices in India. However things are improving and to my surprise I could get this headphone slightly above the international price (Rs. 3,500 equivalent to about $ 75).

I have used this for the past 2 weeks and I think I have made the right decision to go ahead with Sennheiser. Once I wear this and listen to TV, I am in new world altogether. The sound is so crisp and clear and I don't miss even one small whisper in movie and I am surprised how wonderful the normal mundane songs are with lots of additional instruments, which were not heard earlier !

The range is quite astonishing. I live in a two storeyed concrete building and when I wear this and go to open terrace, I could still hear TV programs (of course slight deterioration because of concrete structure). Within the house I can roam around all rooms and still don't have to miss anything.

The battery lasts reasonably well (I had to change only once during the past 2 weeks). I feel instead of rechargeable battery of RS120 or RS130 (which have almost identical specification), this replaceable battery is better because we can always use NiMH batteries and separate charger, thereby ensuring better reliability.

Overall I feel this investment is really going to serve me well.

Amazon.com Product Description:
Don't let a sleeping family keep you from your new action adventure movie, DTS 5.1 concert, or online video game tournament by setting up these Pioneer wireless surround sound headphones. The SE-DIR800C phones, which connect to any 5.1-channel source--including a DVD player, game console, digital cable box, or satellite receiver--are equipped with Dolby Headphone technology, which produces up to five virtual loudspeakers in your head by directing and reflecting the sound from each channel. The effect is a stunning surround experience, far more dimensional than with typical headphones, and, some say, even better than with a high-performance surround speaker system. The audio is natural sounding and doesn't cause "listener fatigue" as do many other headphones. The phones also work with a variety of surround formats, including Dolby Digital, DTS, and Dolby Surround.

Most conveniently, the SE-DIR800C phones are completely cordless. The small wireless transmitter connects to your source (DVD player, game console, etc.) and broadcasts a clear, strong signal via infrared technology to the headphones. Thanks to the wireless technology, you won't snag a headphone cord on furniture, your dog, your glasses, or anything else.

The phones feature a trio of "virtual room" presets from which to choose. The options actually reproduce the sound of a playback system in up to three different listening environments based on the acoustic measurements of real rooms. The small room setting (DH1) re-creates a small, well-damped room with very little reverberation that's perfect for both movies and music-only recordings, while the medium room (DH2) is a more acoustically live (or "wet") room that's well suited to both formats as well (with moderate reverberation). Meanwhile, the large room setting (DH3) offers a bigger sound, more like the audio within a concert hall or movie theater.

A final bonus stems from the onboard volume control. With a volume dial on the headphone itself, users can easily turn up the audio without getting out of the chair. The SE-DIR800C phones, which offer a transmission range of up to 26 feet, are an ideal choice for folks who live in busy households where people go to sleep early, or for anyone who wants a little audio privacy while watching movies or listening to music. The phones are backed by a 90-day warranty on parts and labor.

Bad design, Poor customer service
While in the warranty the head set broke just above the yoke holding the right can. I drove 100 miles to a authorized customer service site and was told to call California. California said to send the head set in after I described the problem. The head set was returned in the same broken condition with no explanation. I called Customer service in California again and was told the warranty didn't cover breakage. I explained there had been no abuse but they didn't care and would only offer to sell a new head set for almost the price of the complete new unit. I used tie wraps to put the thing together. Yesterday the other side broke in the same place. It appears to be a severe design flaw. It also would be nice to have a stand to store the headset when not in use that would keep the batteries recharged.

Amazing sound quality, great for not annoying roommates
I love my DVDs, a good sci-fi or action flick always sounds better in 5.1 sound. However, my roommates don't appreciate me blasting movies and time sharing the TV is a bit cumbersome. I wanted a way to make my MacBook Pro into my DVD player and using this coupled with a toslink cable with a mini-plug fit the bill nicely.

When I am listening to a movie, the sound is completely immersive. The bass is deep and rumbling and the highs are crisp and clear. The sound is truly surrounding you, it's amazing how well it replicates 5.1.

Comfort is very good. I wear glasses and it fits around the arm of my glasses, it does not create hot spots and I can wear them for two movies without issue. I bought two of these, one for me to wear and one for my girlfriend so we can both watch movies. One transmitter drives two headphones without ANY problems since it just pushes out infrared beams.

It comes with two AA NiMH rechargeable batteries, but I recommend using Sanyo Eneloops as the Eneloops give you alkaline performance (don't lose a charge when not used) with NiMH capabilities. I watched four movies before putting the Eneloops in the charger (even though the headphones weren't indicating low battery power).

The front display tells you what mode it's in (Digital, Pro Logic II or DTS). The other banks of LEDs tell you what headphone mode it's in (dampened room, normal room , concert hall) and if it's movie, music or auto mode for Pro Logic II processing.

A note for Mac owners to make this recognize digital input:

1) Insert TOSLINK cable (either toslink > Toslink or mini-plug > Toslink) so your Mac goes into digital output mode.

2) Open up DVD player without a disk inserted

3) Click on Preferences > Disc Setup

4) In Audio Source, select "Digital"

5) Play DVD and enjoy rich digital sound

These headphones will not disappoint you!

Great way to tune out background noise
Pros: The headphones eliminate the problem of the TV having to compete with the sounds of kids, dishes, pots, pans, phones, doorbells and other household chaos. They're comfortable. The infrared signal remains strong (unless you hold something in front of you, like a magazine, that blocks the signal). Battery life is decent. Sound quality is decent.

Cons: Couldn't they have at least made the "MADE IN CHINA" label a little smaller? The volume knob on the headphones is awkward. It should stick out a little more so you can get your fingers around it. The amplifier in the headphones could be a little more robust. Volume levels for most movies and TV programs is adequate, but it could really be better for music, concert DVDs, etc. (I use the optical connection to the source and it's still not enough).

If you must have wireless headphones these are pretty nice... if you can swallow the price (I paid 9 from JR Music in NY).

INCREDIBLE! AMAZING!! UNBELEIVEABLE!!! GET THE POINT????
First off, I'm an Audiophile and have enjoyed music to unhealthy levels for 25+ years AND don't wear a hearing aid.... although, I'll be first to admit, my hearing with background noise is not good.... although, one on one with no loud ambient noise is good.

Here goes.... These things speak for themselves!! The people with the negative comments have no clue what they're talking about!! Possible problems:
1) have a totally different brand, model and decade.
2) hooked up horrible incorrect.
3) a defective pair.
4) have never had a pair of headphones on their heads EVER.....and have only ever heard Pink Floyd through a Carver Amp and 1,000 watt speakers placed 3 feet away from each ear respectively.
5) TERRIBLE source material.
6) need an amazing hearing aid.

Bottom line, the better the connection and material, the better they will sound. If you want INCREDIBLE bass, either listen to Hip-Hop/Rap OR pump in or record your ROCK with the EQ put in to the recording/source material. Easily done, just use a little imagination with your material and connections..... and these will TOTALLY SCREAM if you make ANY effort towards that end.... you could be writing this review instead of one damning them all to heck!!

Now, the only downside is line-of-sight..... I use these when I'm on the couch at night.... When I'm running in and out of the room for food....lol... I grab my Sennheiser's RS-130's . They're GREAT for going through walls. They're not as loud and of course, the like WOW... and where did that come from isn't there.... but hey, you pay for the walls. Still, before I finally sprang for these, I thought those were good.... they still are....just that these are GREAT! Case in point, I don't write reviews..... but I couldn't stand people RIPPING on these babies any longer..... It's a TOTAL injustice!!

One last thing.... The sound is FOR REAL.... I feel terribly guilty.... At times, I'm thinking my loud speakers are on..... and CRANKIN.... or that people gotta be hearing this..... alotta weird brain things... hard to explain, the surround, the whole deal is real and it will bend reality and perception.... YOU really gotta experience them... Do me a favor and take your cheap-A$$ to the checkout and PURCHASE THEM. Worst case, re-sell them on Ebay...... But trust me, if you're reading this review, you WANT these, you NEED these and will NEVER part with "THEM"

WIRELESS HEADSET
Like being in the middle of the action. Takes getting used to. I kept moving my head left and right to see what was over there where I heard the sound coming from. My hearing has been diminished due to jet engine noise from flying in the USAF, poor between 2000 and 3000 cycles and almost nothing above 3000 cycles; yet, I had no problems hearing and understanding what was said, much better than in the movies or a surround sound setting.

Works great, most of the time...
This is my first set of wireless headphones. I bought them so my kids can watch TV in the living room at night without bothering me in the next room. I am using them with an ONKYO receiver, Satellite, PS3, and HD tv set up. I have the headphones tied into the receiver.

First time I tried them, there was a noticeable amount of static. The second time, however there was none. What changed? The time of day. The manual says that direct sunlight can interfere with the signal, and sure enough it does. My AV rack is near a window that gets a lot of sun during the morning (the first time I tried them), later in the afternoon when the window was in the shade the static was gone.

I have a large living room that is adjacent to our kitchen. I get good reception within the full TV viewing range.

The headphones are comfortable, although they tend to make my ears sweat after a while. I like the recharge base, and the overall look of the headphones. I didn't like the short (about 3 feet) phone jack cable that the unit came supplied with. I had to rearrange my stereo components to allow the cord to reach the headphone jack. Also, don't like having to plug/unplug them when I go to use them, but other than these minor annoyances, they sound great and get the job done.

Cordless Headphones, Sony MDR-IF540
I bought these headphones for my 83 year old dad who wears hearing aids in both ears. He can't hear the new tv. The hook up was simple and they worked great right out of the box. The instructions were simple and easy to read. Sony gives you a couple of different ways to plug in, depending on what set-up you have. They play loud enough for him and they don't make the hearing aids buzz. I feel that they are outstanding for the money and Amazon always makes buying from them simple and once again, a very good value.

Good while they lasted
I've owned these headphones for almost 5 months now. A little over a month ago, the sound started cutting out in the right ear. I was able to play around with it and move the headphones around and it'd come back. Annoying, but at least I could get it working fairly easily. Unfortunately, those days seem to be over as that doesn't quite do the trick anymore. The warranty was only for 90 days and they now charge about to repair them (not to mention return shipping). I wouldn't recommend them unless you buy an extended warranty. Even then, they weren't exactly the greatest headphones in terms of sound. I'd recommend avoiding them.

Only get this if you don't like quality sound
Well, I had high hopes for this product. I should have known better. Basically, you get a lot of static no matter how you adjust the knobs. Nuff said. Always that background noise, no matter what. This will work if you are watching TV in bed and don't want to wake the wife, but forget any sense of realism if you want immersive sound in a gamer environment or quality live music. I returned my set after about 40 minutes out of the box. Plus, you have to really aim the IR transmitter perfectly just to get a decent signal, and it cuts out any time you move around or place your hand in front of your face. Much better to suffer the wire than to purchase this. Don't do it.

Sony headphones
I really like the headphones. When they go out of range the sound just cuts out. My other headphones produced loud fuzzy static when they went out of range. The surround sound is interesting, but I could leave it also. The vibration affect doesn't do that much for me, but you can turn it off if you want, which is nice. They fit nice and are light. The sound is first class. I would buy them again.

I feel instead of rechargeable battery of RS120 or RS130 (which have almost identical specification), this replaceable battery is better because we can always use NiMH batteries and separate charger, thereby ensuring better reliability.

Overall I feel this investment is really going to serve me well.

RS-140
I was pleased from the very start with my purchase of the RS-140 wireless headset. I have a slight hearing impairment at higher frequencies due to turbine engines. I learned very quickly the first time I used the RS-140 that I was missing a lot of sounds such as cricket and birds as well as in music. Chamber music is a whole new world for me since using this product. I recommend the RS-140 to anyone that may have a slight hearing loss.

Excellent Product
These head phones make TV viewing a pleasure and save my neighbors ears as well. They are perfect performers and I don't know what I'd do without them

superb wireless headphones!!
We own two large HD TVs. I can watch a game in one room, while my wife watches a movie in the other or listens to stereo as she paints. Neither of us encroaches upon the other. You put the TV on "mute" and control the volume with the headset controls. And we can walk from one room to another and change channels and listen to each other's programs. We own 3 of these headsets and they are all superb. Plus we can wander up to 1000 feet of the transmitter and still pick up the broadcast. Amazing product. And Amazon has the best prices!!

best headphones i ever had
This is a good product, with replaceable parts and great craftsmanship, I have been using them regularly, as a professional musician I would recommend these. You can even buy an extra set of the phones and charge them on the transmitter charger while your using the other set, very helpful for nonstop use.

I can hear the TV now.
I can now hear the TV while others are listening at a volume lower than I need to hear. I can also hear the TV while other people are having a conversation.

Sennheiser RS 130 Wireless Surround Sound Headphones

Sennheiser RS 130 Wireless Surround Sound Headphones
Binding: Electronics
Manufacturer: Sennheiser
Product Description:
Wireless headphones are popular among home-theater devotees who like to indulge in uninhibited late night movies, as well as music lovers who don't want to be tied down to their receivers or computers. Sennheiser is one of Germany's leading headphone manufacturers and a major proponent of wireless technology, so we couldn't wait to try its new-for-2005 model, the RS130.
The Sennheiser RS130s are very light, just 9.8 ounces, and we found them extremely comfortable over a long evening of watching DVDs. This set of Open-Air headphones comes with a stylish base station/charger that houses a 900MHz wireless transmitter. The newly revised system is fitted with Sennheiser's Intelligent Auto Tuning system, which automatically selects the best of three available base-to-headset channels to ensure the lowest-possible distortion and noise. To charge the headphones' two AAA nickel-metal-hydride batteries, just place the RS130s on the cradle of the transmitter base. Fully charged, the headphones will play for as long as 22 hours with built-in volume control. The base/charger can be mounted on the wall or placed near your components. All of the adapters and necessary cables are included for stereo output.
The RS130 also features Sennheiser's SRS Headphone virtual-surround-sound system. SRS is compatible with two-channel audio sources such as CDs and DVDs. SRS opened up the sound a bit so that it was less stuck inside the listener's head, but it also made the sound more echo and reverberant. Some people will like the effect, others won't. We didn't and opted to switch it off.
Amazon.com Product Description:
Experience total audio immersion and freedom with the Sennheiser RS 130 wireless headphones. With an SRS surround sound mode that can be switched on or off, and a design that completely encases your ears, the RS 130s are ideal for kicking back on the couch with a DVD when the rest of the house is asleep. Or, maybe you want to dance to the music from your hi-fi system while doing some laundry. With the RS 130s you can move around freely while enjoying audiophile-class sound wherever you roam.

While many wireless headphones suffer from poor reception, the RS 130s have the problem licked with intelligent auto tuning and a self-learning automatic signal level control that provides maximum signal reception and a range of up to 150 meters. The headphones are lightweight, too, making them very comfortable to wear. The included transmitter and stand makes recharging the headphone batteries easy; simply hang the headphones on the charging cradle and you're good to go. With an operating time of approximately 22 hours, though, plan on spending most of your time enjoying rich sound and maximum mobility.

Great Product!
I'm quite happy with the Sennheiser RS 130 head phones. The sound quality is excellent for wireless headphones and they are quite comfortable. The complaints I hear must be from audiophiles, because honestly, I don't hear a high pitched whine. The only thing I hear is a mild hiss when there is low or little sound, but that's to be expected from wireless head phones. The sound quality is very good and they don't have any "lag" when I'm watching TV (lips synch correctly). They are very small profile, so I just put them on top of my TV and grab 'em when I need them.

I only have one complaint about these headphones...My ears get hot when I wear them. I can usually wear them for about 1 to 2 hours before I get uncomfortable.

Not a ding on the product, but a ding on Sony...For those of you that own a Sony TV, be warned, Sony is stupid. You must turn OFF the TV speakers to enable audio out. It's quite irritating. So, make sure your remote has plenty of battery power, you'll be switching the audio on the TV on and off quite often.

Excellent Headphones!
These headphones are just what I was looking for. Crystal clear sound and very comfortable to wear...I highly recommend these.

Sennheiser RS 130 Wireless Headphones
This is my first experience with a wireless headphone. I did not get an infrared unit, since that would always require line-of-sight contact with the base unit. I bought this one based on price from the sales company, which was substantially lower than that offered by other sources. Overall, I am satisfied with this product, except for one thing. The unit, together with the headphones stands a bit over 9" tall, which means it will not fit into the shelves that contain my home entertainment center. The sound quality is ok for me, but does not have the sense of sound separation that my HTS, with its speaker separation it has.

Recharging of the headphone's internal, replaceable AA batteries is done through two metal contacts on the headphones when they are in contact with the base unit supports. This works well, but it does mean that the user cannot simply replace the headphones on the base unit and be sure that the batteries would recharge; attention is needed to make sure good electrical contact is made.

I was influenced to purchase this unit based on the user comments I read from other people, some of whom commented about other brand name headphones.

I had a bit of a concern about how to connect this headphone system to my HTS, since neither the HTS or the headphone instructions were very clear about this. After contacting the HTS mfr. I used some of the unused terminals on the back of the HTS receiver and found the headphones worked well. The only remaining step was to press the "mute" button on the HTS's remote control.

I deducted one star from this review because none of the information I read about these headphones gave any measurements, which as I said before, is taller than I would have liked, and I have not yet settled on where I will finally put the base unit.

Did not work!
These headphones failed to pick up audio from the television. I have contacted Sennheiser who sent me a UPS return label. I have returned the headphones to them for a replacement which I have not yet received.

Should have bought these a long time ago
I bought this wireless headset to watch tv/movies without disturbing others in the house at night. They work flawlessly! The range is great - clear reception not just throughout the 3 story house, but they can be used from the corner of our front yard to the corner of our back yard.

I've hooked the base unit up to the entertainment receiver so I can listen to tv/dvd/vhs/cd/radio as I wish. The sound quality is actually better than the traditional speakers used for the entertainment center. Sometimes I even wear the headphones when the family is watching TV so I can have an even better sound experience!

zero regrets!
