Amazon.com Product Description:
These super-light, ear-bud headphones weigh a mere six grams (.18 ounces.) They are the perfect headphone for those who relish lightweight, quality headphones. The silent cap confines the music to the listener's ear and away from those in the immediate area, a plus for those using the headphones in the coffee shop or library. The earphones are also open-air, meaning they allow ambient noises to enter the ear; this translates to a safer headphones, as the listener will be aware of horns, whistles and shouts.

The MDR-E828LP's deliver a quality sound, even with their small size. The headphones use sixteen millimeter drive units for a deep bass and clear treble. Sony also uses neodymium magnets which provide more energy per ounce than other conventional magnets. The PET diaphragm gives the headphones a high rigidity for minimum distortion. Finally, Sony's Acoustic Twin Turbo circuit achieves high sonic output by utilizing sound chamber and duct technology. The oxygen-free litz cord transfers sound efficiently. The cord is one meter long (3.3 feet) for ample range of movement. The housing is a modern, hi-tech, black and silver metallic finish.

Neodymium
I've bought this model of Sony earbud for over four years. That alone should be a testament as to the satisfaction that this model has brought me (and my wallet for that matter). Of course they aren't going to take rampant abuse, but there aren't many things that are going to take rampant abuse these days, so complaints in regards to that are ridiculous and should be readily ignored.

As an aside, I've coupled these with the Koss Portapros for over four years and have been overwhelmingly pleased by the options that having these two sets have given me. When laying down or in need of a little more wire (or a bit more quality and stereo separation), I use the Koss. When planning to be mobile with not much luggage space (or desire) I use the Sonys and hardly skip a beat (pun intended).

There is a problem here though.

You'll notice that I gave these four stars as opposed to five and that the title of my review is "Neodymium"

By all senses of this situation, I do not refute the claims of Neodymium being a "stronger" magnet or being able to produce more "powerful" sound. Whatever...

Either way, ever since Sony started to incorporate these neodymium magnets into their products, I've noticed a significant decrease in overall bass output and questionable sound characteristics. I've replaced my faith in Sony's products whenever I see "Neodymium" on the label. At this point, my purchase of this model of ear bud is because I lack the ability to get a different model.

Now, the music is entertaining, I guess, but it isn't what it was. I believe that they should cease selling this ear bud under this model number, because its just not true. Being that I listen to an overwhelming amount of Trance and Techno, the midbass response that is present is still moderately fulfilling. But when it comes to rap/hip-hop and some rock, I am far from pleased--primarily because I've been buying these for YEARS and my expectations are simply of what I've previously experienced.

(Truly, Specifications are Subject to Change Without Notice!!!)

Even more, the Sony MDR-300Vs sound worse than the old MDR-150s now that they've begun using this neodymium concept in their new products. But that's another story...

To any potential buyer of these phones, know that this remains a great buy...and yes the Sennheiser M500s get spanked by these (I've had both), but to those who may have had these in the past and are contemplating returning to them, expecting more of the same great sound that you came to love, think twice...

I hope this helps!

Good listening quality
Very happy with my final decision to buy the Sony E828LP Fontopia Earbuds with Winding Case. Delivery time was early and received in very good condition. The earbuds deliver much better quality of sound with my Sony Walkman than the original earphones that came with the walkman.

I wear my earbuds with my Sony Walman every morning when I walk about a mile and have had no problems with the earbuds hurting my ears or staying in. The winding case is great for traveling or carrying in your pocket or purse.

Although I paid a much higher price from a different Amazon outsource, I would buy them again and would highly recommend them.

Suprisingly Durable
I've tried a lot of earbud styled headphones, and this pair has lasted me a year now and it is still going. It has surprised me with its durability, and I have been wearing these to sleep for that long, and I haven't had any problems. At first I didn't like these, I actually got them by mistake as I had a similarly named Sony Earbud set. I didn't like them because I felt that its particular style was going to fall out of my ear, but when I wear them I tend to forget they are there unless the cord snags on something, which was another thing that has surprised me. The price for this specific pair has actually gone down from when I originally purchased it. If they are ever to fail on me, I would most likely get a new pair. I like this pair for its ability to let me hear outside noise, and I use in-ear monitors when I don't want to hear anything. So, they are indeed a decent pair if you don't want to spend a whole lot of money, and you're music player or whatever has a good equalizer, and or you're not too picky regarding sound.

The BEST headphones period.
I got these headphones about a decade ago, and these had amazing bass. Not too much bass, not too little bass. Just the perfect amount of bass and crispness where I can close my eyes and immerse myself in the music with. Since then, I have spent roughly 0 and have gone through 8 additional headphones that have not even come close to these (5 of them from Sony, some of professional grade). These being the cheapest ones for about ! I'm never going to try to find something better. As perfection was always away, and paying more always seemed like you got a lot less.

I lost these 8 years ago, but I just picked up new ones yesterday, and I can say that I can come to loving music at a much higher level once again. If you have these headphones, you'd know exactly what I mean by that. There definitely is magic in their Twin Turbo technology.

Amazing headphones for ridiculously low price
I got these quite a while ago as a Christmas gift to replace my old, broken headphones. At the time, I had little experience with digital music and didn't really notice much special about these earbuds.

However, after buying an iPod nano recently and using Apple's provided earbuds, which subsequently fell apart, I returned to these and was stunned by the incredible sound quality. The bass in these tiny earbuds is very impressive compared to the Apple units, and in general the sound is very well balanced with all frequencies coming through with great clarity.

In addition, the design and construction of these headphones is very solid and durable. Best of all, they're less than 10 dollars!

If you're looking for a good pair of earbuds, BUY THESE. Great sound, solid construction, and the best price you'll find!
